Un ensemble film mince comprend un film mince optique et une couche d'espacement discontinue disposée sur une surface principale du film mince optique. Dans un empilement multicouche de films minces optiques, la couche d'espacement peut être située entre des régions opposées de films minces adjacents de telle sorte que la couche d'espacement sépare les films minces adjacents et inhibe ou empêche un contact de surface à surface.
