The present disclosure provides an electronic device mounted on a battery-driven electric vehicle, and an operation method therefor. An electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure can calculate expected battery consumption during travel to a destination, identify the remaining current battery amount inside the vehicle, and determine, on the basis of at least in a part of the identified remaining battery amount and expected battery consumption, whether to switch from a first communication mode currently in use (for example, 5G mmWave RF communication) to a second communication mode, which consumes power at a different battery power consumption rate.
