Die Erfindung betrifft eine Anlage (1) zum vorzugsweise automatischen Beschichten von Gegenständen (11) mit Beschichtungsmaterial, wobei die Anlage (1) eine Beschichtungsstation (2) mit mindestens einer Beschichtungspistole (3) zum insbesondere bedarfsweisen Versprühen von Beschichtungsmaterial in Richtung eines Beschichtungsbereichs (4) und eine Fördervorrichtung (12) aufweist zum insbesondere kontinuierlichen Transportieren von zu beschichtenden Gegenständen (11) durch den Beschichtungsbereich (4). Erfindungsgemäß ist insbesondere vorgesehen, dass die Anlage (1) eine Einrichtung (6) zum Erfassen der An- und/oder Abwesenheit eines zu beschichtenden Gegenstands (11) in einem - in Förderrichtung der Fördervorrichtung (12) gesehen - stromaufwärts der Beschichtungsstation (2) liegenden Überwachungsbereich (79) aufweist, wobei ferner eine Steuereinrichtung (13) vorgesehen ist, welche ausgebildet ist, in Abhängigkeit von dem Erfassungsergebnis der Einrichtung (6) zum Erfassen der An- und/oder Abwesenheit eines zu beschichtenden Gegenstands (11) die mindestens eine Beschichtungspistole (3) der Beschichtungsstation (2) anzusteuern.
