Embodiments of the present application provide a method and apparatus for obtaining a master information block (MIB), and a terminal. When a system message update indication is received and an MIB needs to be obtained, a target measurement gap is selected from at least one measurement gap, and inter-frequency measurement is performed on the target measurement gap. The time slot corresponding to the measurement gap is the same as that for the terminal to detect a synchronization information block (SSB) of a current serving cell, so when the inter-frequency measurement is performed on the measurement gap, the SSB is also measured. In this way, the MIB can be obtained by parsing the SSB, avoiding poor data decoding performance caused by receiving the SSB using a full bandwidth method, thereby obtaining the MIB while solving the problem of poor data decoding performance.
