A water level detection device for detecting the water level inside a cooking utensil can prevent the overflow of boiling water caused by bumping or excessive cooking materials, and comprises: a first probe; a second probe; a tilt angle sensor for detecting tilt angles of the first probe and the second probe; a capacitance sensor for detecting the capacitance between the first probe and the second probe; and a processor which calculates a dangerous water level of the cooking utensil on the basis of the strength of a current flowing from the first probe to the second probe and the tilt angle between the first probe and the second probe, and which determines whether the water level inside the cooking utensil reaches the dangerous water level on the basis of the capacitance between the first probe and the second probe.
