L'invention concerne un poly(furanoate d'éthylène) présentant une viscosité intrinsèque de 0,95-1,50 dl/g. Ladite viscosité intrinsèque est mesurée (la constante de Huggins est définie comme valant 0,32) à 30 °C à l'aide d'un viscosimètre Ubbelohde, après dissolution de 0,25 g du poly(furanoate d'éthylène) dans 50 ml d'un mélange de solvants phénol/1,1,2,2-tétrachloroéthane = 50/50 (rapport pondéral).
