A rechargeable battery according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a first case (for example, an anode at the bottom thereof) accommodating an electrode assembly and having a first opening; a second case (for example, a cathode at the top thereof) which has a second opening that is smaller than the first opening and which is coupled, on the outer surface thereof, to the inner surface of the first case while covering the electrode assembly; an insulating material interposed between the first case and the second case so as to form an electrically insulated state; a plurality of protrusion portions protruding from the outer surface of the second case; and a plurality of accommodation portions formed in the first case so as to be coupled to the protrusion portions, wherein, when the protrusion portions are coupled to the accommodation portions, the first case and the second case are fastened so as to form a closed state.
