The disclosure provides a method of treating a tumor in a human subject in need thereof, comprising administering an effective amount of a checkpoint inhibitor to the subject, wherein the subject is identified as having a parenchymal inflammatory phenotype, wherein the parenchymal inflammatory phenotype is determined by measuring the expression of a panel of genes comprising at least 5 genes in a sample obtained from the subject.
