The purpose of the present embodiment is to provide a display device such that a reduction in display quality can be suppressed.　The display device according to the present embodiment is provided with: a display panel that has a display section made up of a plurality of pixels and a non-display section surrounding the display section; an illumination device for illuminating the display panel; and a color separation element that is provided between the display panel and the illumination device. The display panel has an opening in the non-display section. The color separation element has a first element overlapping with pixels and a second element overlapping with the opening. The first element separates illumination light from the illumination device into multiple colors of light which impinge on the pixels, and the second element separates the illumination light from the illumination device into multiple colors of light which impinge on the opening.
