Provided is a sewing machine (70) that includes: a box type bed (72) which accommodates a conveying device (5) that conveys within a work plane an object to be stitched; and an arm (71) which includes a stitching means having a needle (1) disposed perpendicular to the work plane and a drive device having a motor (7) that causes the needle (1) to move reciprocally, the arm (71) being cantilevered on the bed (72). The arm (71) includes a base (76) which is fixed to the bed (72) at a position not on a plane that includes the needle (1) and the rotational axis of the motor (7). The bed (72) includes a pedestal (73) that contacts a location at which a rear wall (72a) and a side wall (72b) meet and that connects to the base (76).
