The problem addressed by the present invention is to provide a semipermeable membrane support body that contains olefinic fiber, wherein: the semipermeable membrane support body can withstand repeated washing and backwashing; the semipermeable membrane component is easily permeated, but bleed through does not occur easily; the adhesiveness of the semipermeable membrane body and the semipermeable membrane is superior; and the adhesiveness of a non-coated surface and a resin frame is also superior. [Solution] Provided is a semipermeable membrane support used by being provided with a semipermeable membrane, wherein: the semipermeable membrane support body is formed from a wet type nonwoven fabric having polypropylene as a core component and containing core-sheath type composite fibers with polyethylene as a sheath component; and the rupture strength of the semipermeable membrane support body is 300 - 1000 kPA, or the Bekk smoothness and 75 degree specular surface glossiness for a coated surface of the semipermeable membrane support body provided with the semipermeable membrane are higher than the Bekk smoothness and the 75 degree specular surface glossiness of the non-coated surface which is on the opposite side of the coated surface.
