This invention relates to a noise attenuation device and in particular a device which provides an increased performance in the range of a mortar system. A noise attenuation device suitable for use on a munition barrel, said device comprising an barrel extension portion, wherein the barrel extension portion has a length in the range of from 10cm to 60cm, at a first end of said barrel extension portion there is a tapered portion which tapers outwardly from said barrel extension portion, wherein said tapered portion, is frustroconical and has a cone angle in the range of from 22° to 28°, at a second end of the barrel extension portion a connector to secure the device onto a munition barrel. La présente invention concerne un dispositif d'atténuation de bruit et en particulier un dispositif qui fournit une performance accrue dans l'ensemble d'un système de mortier. Dispositif d'atténuation de bruit approprié pour être utilisé sur un canon de munition, ledit dispositif comprenant une partie d'extension de canon, la partie d'extension de canon ayant une longueur dans la plage de 10 cm à 60 cm, au niveau d'une première extrémité de ladite partie d'extension de canon se trouve une partie effilée qui s'effile vers l'extérieur à partir de ladite partie d'extension de canon, ladite partie effilée étant tronconique et ayant un angle de cône dans la plage de 22° à 28°, au niveau d'une seconde extrémité de la partie d'extension de canon, un connecteur pour fixer le dispositif sur un canon de munition.
