In this energy control device, a gradual decrease detection unit detects, on the basis of a result of detecting an electric characteristic value related to electric energy output from an energy output source to an ultrasonic vibrator, a gradual decrease starting time at which the electric characteristic value starts to gradually decrease after gradually increasing. On the basis of the fact that the rate of change over time in the electric characteristic value has exceeded a predetermined threshold after the gradual decrease starting time, a control unit causes the energy output source to stop or reduce the output of the electric energy to the ultrasonic vibrator, and/or makes a notification of the fact that the rate of change over time has exceeded the predetermined threshold.
