The present application provides a method and device for transmitting a data stream. The method uses intermediate nodes to transmit a data stream between a source node and a destination node. The data stream comprises a first data stream in a coded form based on fountain codes. The method comprises: a first intermediate node receives a coded packet sent by the source node or at least one second intermediate node, the coded packet being a packet obtained by coding an original packet of the first data stream by using a fountain code technology; in the case that the occupancy rate of a first cache queue exceeds a threshold value, the first intermediate node discards the coded packet, the first cache queue being a cache queue allocated by the first intermediate node for the first data stream, and the threshold value representing a maximum occupancy rate allowed by the first cache queue.
