This soot blowing apparatus is provided with a heat transfer tube of a heat exchanger disposed inside a pressure vessel (100) and an injection pipe (5) from which vapor for cleaning is injected toward the heat transfer tube and which is provided to be inwardly and outwardly movable with respect to the pressure vessel (100). The soot blowing apparatus comprises: a tubular casing (1) through which the injection pipe (5) passes encloses an insertion hole (100a) on the side of the pressure vessel (100) in which the injection pipe (5) is inserted and extends outward from the pressure vessel (100); a supporting part (7) provided inside the casing (1) for guiding movement of the injection pipe (5) and securing airtightness between the casing (1) and the injection pipe (5); and a first gas supply apparatus (30) disposed proximately to the supporting part (7) for generating a jet of gas (nitrogen gas) in a portion where the injection pipe (5) protrudes toward the pressure vessel (100) side. Thus, char adhered on the surface of the injection pipe for blowing soot is prevented from being taken into a sealing material.
