The present invention relates to a process for preparing a formulation comprising an alkali metal salt selected from the group consisting of alkali metal bicarbonate salts, alkali metal carbonate salts, alkali metal sesquicarbonate salts and combinations thereof, wherein said process comprises: (a) dissolving a functionalizing agent in a solvent; (b) mixing the alkali metal salt with the solution comprising the functionalizing agent that a paste-like composition is formed; (c) extruding the paste-like composition to obtain filaments or granules; (d) at least partially removing the solvent from the filaments or granules. The invention furthermore relates to a powder, filaments and granules obtainable from said process and to the use of the powder, filaments or granules in various applications such as in plastic foaming or in food and feed leavening compositions. La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer une formulation comprenant un sel de métal alcalin choisi dans le groupe constitué par les bicarbonates du métal alcalin, les carbonates du métal alcalin, les sesquicarbonates du métal alcalin et des combinaisons de ceux-ci, ledit procédé consistant à : (a) dissoudre un agent de fonctionnalisation dans un solvant ; (b) mélanger le sel du métal alcalin avec la solution comprenant l'agent de fonctionnalisation de manière à obtenir une composition semblable à une pâte ; (c) extruder la composition semblable à une pâte pour obtenir des filaments ou des granulés ; (d) éliminer au moins partiellement le solvant des filaments ou des granulés. L'invention concerne en outre une poudre, des filaments et des granulés pouvant être obtenus avec ledit procédé, et l'utilisation de la poudre, des filaments ou des granulés dans diverses applications telles que le gonflement des mousses plastiques ou dans des compositions alimentaires ou de fermentation alimentaires.
