The present application relates to a method for diagnosing a disease of a subject, comprising the step of determining the presence or absence of one or more circular RNA (circRNA) in a sample of a bodily fluid of said subject; wherein the presence or absence of said one or more circRNA is indicative for the disease. In particular the application relates to a method for diagnosing the neurodegenerative disease, preferably Alzheimer's disease, in a subject comprises the steps of - determining the level of one or more circRNA in a sample of a bodily fluid of said subject; - comparing the determined level to a control level of said one or more circRNA; wherein differing levels between the determined and the control level are indicative for the disease. Furthermore, the application relates to means for detecting circRNAs being a biomarker for a neurodegenerative disease and kits and array comprising nucleic acid probes for detecting exon-exon junctions in a head to tail arrangement of these circRNAs. La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de diagnostiquer une maladie chez un sujet, comprenant l'étape de détermination de la présence ou de l'absence d'un ou de plusieurs ARN circulaire (ARNcirc) dans un échantillon d'un fluide corporel dudit sujet ; la présence ou l'absence dudit ou desdits circRNA étant un indicateur de maladie. En particulier, l'invention concerne un procédé permettant de diagnostiquer la maladie neurodégénérative, de préférence la maladie d'Alzheimer, chez un sujet, le procédé comprenant les étapes de - détermination du niveau d'un ou de plusieurs ARNcirc dans un échantillon d'un fluide biologique dudit sujet ; - comparaison du niveau déterminé à un niveau de commande dudit ou desdits ARNcirc ; des niveaux différents entre le niveau déterminé et le niveau témoin étant un indicateur de maladie. L'invention concerne en outre des moyens de détection d'ARNcirc qui est un biomarqueur pour une maladie neurodégénérative, ainsi que des kits et un réseau comprenant des sondes d'acide nucléique permettant de détecter des jonctions exon-exon dans un agencement tête à queue de ces ARNcirc.
