Process for preparation of a mixture of methyl glycine diacetic acid (MGDA) or its respective mono-, di-, trialkali metal salt or its respective mono-, di- or tri-ammonium salt or mixtures thereof, and glutamic acid diacetic acid (GLDA) or its respective mono-, di-, tri-, or tetra-alkali metal or mono-, di-, tri- or tetra-ammonium salt or mixtures thereof, wherein said process com- prises the steps of: (a) dissolution in water of (a1) alanine in its L- or D-enantiomeric form or its respective monoalkali metal salt or mixtures thereof, and (a2) glutamic acid as L- or D-enantiomer or its respective mono-, or dialkali metal or mixtures thereof, wherein the molar ratio of alanine to glutamic acid is in the range of from1:9 to 9:1, (b) converting the mixture obtained in step (a) with formaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid or alkali metal cyanide to the corresponding dinitriles, (c) saponification of the dinitriles resulting from step (b). La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un mélange d'acide méthyl glycine diacétique (MGDA) ou son sel respectif de métal mono-, di-, trialcalin ou son sel de mono-, di- ou tri-ammonium ou leurs mélanges, et d'acide glutamique-acide diacétique (GLDA) ou son sel respectif de métal mono-, di-, tri-, ou tétra-alcalin ou son sel de mono-, di-, tri- ou tétra-ammonium ou leurs mélanges, où ledit procédé comprend les étapes de : (a) dissolution dans l'eau de (a1) alanine sous sa forme énantiomérique L ou D ou son sel respectif de métal monoalcalin ou leurs mélanges, et (a2) d'acide glutamique sous la forme énantiomère L ou D ou son métal respectif mono-, ou dialcalin ou leurs mélanges, où le rapport molaire de l'alanine à l'acide glutamique se situe dans la plage de 1:9 à 9:1, (b) conversion du mélange obtenu dans l'étape (a) avec du formaldéhyde et de l'acide hydrocyanique ou du cyanure de métal alcalin en les dinitriles correspondants, (c) saponification des dinitriles résultant de l'étape (b).
