A humidifier of the present invention comprises a humidification unit (50) that generates humidified air by vaporizing water, and a fan (60) that generates, in an air passage (5), air flow that leads the humidified air to the outside. The humidifier further comprises: a sterile water generating unit (10) that generates sterile water; an ultrasonic wave applying unit (72) that generates a sterilizing mist by irradiating the sterile water with ultrasonic waves; an auxiliary passage (6) for leading the sterilizing mist to the outside; and an operation switching mechanism (9). The operation switching mechanism (9) switches between a first operation mode in which the air passage (5) and the auxiliary passage (6) are made to communicate and the sterilizing mist is led to the air passage (5), and a second operation mode in which the communication between the air passage (5) and the auxiliary passage (6) is blocked.
