Summary:Disclosed are an apparatus for estimating the charge state of a secondary battery, and a method therefor. An apparatus according to the present invention comprises a control unit for estimating the charge state of a secondary battery by repeatedly executing an extended Kalman filter algorithm using a state equation, which time-updates a state variable comprising the charge state and the polarization voltage of the secondary battery, and an output equation, which estimates the voltage of the secondary battery by using an open voltage according to the charge state, the polarization voltage, and an internal resistance voltage occurring due to the internal resistance of the secondary battery, wherein, when the secondary battery is in a key-off state, the control unit increases the difference between charge state noise of the extended Kalman filter and polarization voltage noise.
