The problems of efficiency and safety when exercising the pectoral muscles are solved in at least one aspect while maintaining low-complexity and portability by a free weight barbell with translating hand grips, with the grips having an integral weight application loading surface that moves with the grip. Provided is an exercise lifting bar having at least two hand grips, an integral loading surface for holding optional plate weights coupled to each hand grip, the paired or coupled grips and loading surfaces thereby defining a member; the members further being substantially cylindrical, collinear, and operable to translate relative to one another. Also included is a translation limiter to limit the motion between the members. A method of assembly and exemplary embodiments of the exercise lifting bar for use in cable exercises are also provided. La présente invention résout les problèmes d'efficacité et de sécurité se posant lors de la réalisation d'exercices faisant travailler les muscles pectoraux en ce qui concerne au moins un aspect tout en conservant la faible complexité et la portabilité avec une barre à disques constituant un poids libre et comportant des poignées se déplaçant en translation, les poignées comportant une surface de charge d'application de poids intégrée qui se déplace avec la poignée. L'invention concerne une barre d'haltérophilie comportant au moins deux poignées, une surface de charge intégrée destinée à supporter d'éventuels disques étant accouplée à chaque poignée, les poignées et surfaces de charge associées ou accouplées définissant ainsi un élément. Les éléments sont en outre essentiellement cylindriques, colinéaires et capables d'effectuer une translation les uns vis-à-vis des autres. La barre comprend également un dispositif de limitation de translation servant à limiter le mouvement entre les éléments. Sont également divulgués un procédé d'assemblage et des modes de réalisation donnés à titre d'exemples de la barre d'haltérophilie pour une utilisation dans le cadre d'exercices réalisés avec des câbles.
