Herein is disclosed method of producing an electrostatic ink composition, the method comprising: mixing a pigment and a dispersant to form a pigment dispersion; wherein the pigment is acidic and the dispersant is basic or the pigment is basic and the dispersant is acidic; and then grinding the pigment dispersion with a resin, and wherein a charge director is combined with the pigment and dispersant before, during or after the grinding of the pigment dispersion with the resin to form the electrostatic ink composition. L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'une composition d'encre électrostatique, le procédé consistant à : mélanger un pigment et un dispersant pour former une dispersion pigmentaire ; le pigment étant acide et le dispersant basique ou le pigment étant basique et le dispersant acide ; puis broyer la dispersion pigmentaire avec une résine, un directeur de charge étant combiné avec le pigment et le dispersant avant, pendant ou après le broyage de la dispersion pigmentaire avec la résine pour former la composition d'encre électrostatique.
