The product mixture can be directly employed in the preparation of polyetherimides and other polyether polymers. L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'une composition de bis(phthalimide), comprenant la réaction d'un anhydride phthalique substitué avec une diamine organique en présence de sulfone diphényl en fusion, de sulfolane ou d'une combinaison comportant au moins l'un d'eux. Le mélange ainsi obtenu peut être directement utilisé dans la préparation de polyétherimides et autres polymères polyéther.
