The present invention relates to a catalyst component comprising an inorganic oxide supported chromium, wherein said inorganic oxide support has been modified by a metal halide modifier, preferably aluminum trichloride or aluminum trichloride hexahydrate. The present invention also relates to a process for obtaining such a catalyst component, a catalyst system comprising said catalyst component and a process for the polymerization of olefins using said catalyst system. La présente invention concerne un composant de catalyseur comprenant du chrome supporté par un oxyde inorganique, ledit support d'oxyde inorganique ayant été modifié par un modificateur de type halogénure de métal, de préférence le trichlorure d'aluminium ou l'hexahydrate de trichlorure d'aluminium. La présente invention concerne également un procédé d'obtention d'un tel composant de catalyseur, un système de catalyseur comprenant ledit composant de catalyseur, et un procédé de polymérisation d'oléfines au moyen dudit système de catalyseur.
