A washing machine (1) comprising: a case (3) having an insertion port (6) in the upper surface thereof, through which items to be washed (5) are inserted and removed; a washing and draining tub (10) having an opening in the upper section thereof and housing the items to be washed (5); and a water tank (4) having the washing and draining tub (10) rotatably arranged therein. The washing machine also comprises: a suspension rod (2) supporting the water tank (4); a lid (7) that opens and closes the insertion port (6); and water tank movement sections (32) that move the water tank (4) towards the front when the lid (7) has been opened and move the water tank (4) to the original position when the lid (7) has been closed.
