A method is provided for predicting that a patient will require a blood transfusion during a treatment. The method includes obtaining, on a processor, first data that indicates values for one or more parameters of a characteristic of a continuous photoplethysmographic (PPG) waveform collected during the treatment. The method further includes applying, on the processor, coefficients to the values for the one or more parameters. The method further includes determining, on the processor, second data that indicates a prediction that the patient will require the blood transfusion during the treatment based on applying the coefficients to the values for the one or more parameters. An apparatus is also provided for predicting that the patient will require the blood transfusion during the treatment. La présente invention concerne un procédé de prédiction d'un besoin de transfusion sanguine pour un patient au cours d'un traitement. Ledit procédé inclut l'obtention, dans un processeur, d'une première donnée indiquant des valeurs pour un ou plusieurs paramètres d'une caractéristique d'une forme d'onde de photopléthysmographie continue au cours du traitement. Le procédé comprend en outre l'application, dans le processeur, de coefficients aux valeurs pour le ou les paramètres. Le procédé comprend également la détermination, dans le processeur, d'une seconde donnée indiquant une prédiction de besoin de transfusion sanguine pour le patient au cours du traitement, sur la base de l'application des coefficients aux valeurs pour le ou les paramètres. L'invention porte également sur un appareil permettant la prédiction d'un besoin de transfusion sanguine pour le patient au cours du traitement.
