A touch panel controller (4) is provided with a control unit (18) which outputs a thinning signal to a drive line driving circuit (15) when touch response magnitude data has a predetermined value or more, that is, the distance between a touch panel and a stylus pen is shorter than the predetermined value, and therefore power consumption consumed when the driving timings of the pen and a touch panel controller for driving the touch panel are synchronized can be reduced, thereby enabling the implementation of a touch panel system that can be driven with low power consumption.
