A radar imaging system comprises a radar transmitter (103) configured to transmit radar at a target (105); an aperture (115) comprising an array of physically independent airborne carriers (101), each of the carriers (101) configured to receive radar echoes from the target (105); and a base station (107), which may be located at ground level, in communication with each of the airborne carriers (101) to receive the radar echoes and determine an image of the target (105) from the received radar echoes.
