A medical system for imaging includes a processor (114) and memory (116) coupled to the processor. The memory includes an optical shape sensing module (115) configured to receive shape sensing data from a shape sensing system (104) coupled to a medical instrument (102). The shape sensing system is configured to measure a shape and position of the medical instrument. An image generation module (148) is configured to detect and digitally remove image artifacts of the medical instrument from a generated image based on at least the shape and the position of the medical instrument as measured by the shape sensing system. La présente invention concerne un système médical d'imagerie, comprenant un processeur (114) et une mémoire (116) reliée audit processeur. Ladite mémoire comporte un module de détection de forme optique (115), conçu pour recevoir des données de détection de forme en provenance d'un système de détection de forme (104) relié à un instrument médical (102). Ledit système de détection de forme est conçu pour mesurer une forme et une position dudit instrument médical. Un module de production d'image (148) est conçu pour détecter et supprimer numériquement des artéfacts d'image de l'instrument médical sur une image produite, sur la base d'au moins la forme et la position de l'instrument médical telles que mesurées par le système de détection de forme.
