This power generating apparatus has: an oscillating member that includes a tough layer, and a magnetostrictive layer, which is laminated above the tough layer, and which is formed of a magnetostrictive material, said tough layer being formed of a tough material having tensile strength higher than that of the magnetostrictive material; a supporting member having the oscillating member attached thereto such that the oscillating member can oscillate in the thickness direction; a magnetic field applying member, which applies a magnetic field to the magnetostrictive layer; and a coil, which is disposed around the magnetostrictive layer. La présente invention a trait à un appareil de production d'énergie qui est doté : d'un élément oscillant qui inclut une couche robuste et une couche magnétostrictive, qui est stratifiée au-dessus de la couche robuste et qui est constituée d'un matériau magnétostrictif, ladite couche robuste étant constituée d'un matériau robuste doté d'une résistance à la traction supérieure à celle du matériau magnétostrictif ; d'un élément de support sur lequel est attaché l'élément oscillant de sorte que l'élément oscillant peut osciller dans la direction de l'épaisseur ; d'un élément appliquant un champ magnétique, qui applique un champ magnétique à la couche magnétostrictive ; et d'une bobine, qui est disposée autour de la couche magnétostrictive.
