This invention relates to a process for modifying a polymeric material having a carbon backbone containing carbon-to-carbon unsaturation by reaction with a hydrolysable silane. The polymeric material can for example be a diene elastomer, and the invention relates to a composition comprising a diene elastomer, a hydrolysable silane and a curing agent for the diene elastomer, and also to the use of a hydrolysable silane as a coupling agent for a diene elastomer composition containing a filler. La présente invention concerne un procédé de modification d'un matériau polymère possédant un squelette de carbone contenant une insaturation carbone-carbone, par mise en réaction avec un silane hydrolysable. Le matériau polymère peut par exemple être un élastomère diénique, et l'invention se rapporte à une composition comprenant un élastomère diénique, un silane hydrolysable et un agent de durcissement pour l'élastomère diénique, et également à l'utilisation d'un silane hydrolysable en tant qu'agent de couplage pour une composition d'élastomère diénique contenant une charge.
