Summary: | Disclosed is a method for preparing 3,3-dimethyl butyraldehyde, comprising the following steps: t-butyl chloride and vinyl acetate are used as raw materials for catalytic preparation of 1-chloro-3,3-dimethylbutyl acetate, where the weight ratio of t-butyl chloride and vinyl acetate is 1:0.84-0.93; 1-chloro-3,3-dimethylbutyl acetate is hydrolyzed and disproportionated under the action of a catalyst and the control of the temperature, to give a hydrolysis and disproportionation reaction mixture containing 3,3-dimethyl butyraldehyde, and the mixture is distillated and purified, to obtain 3,3-dimethyl butyraldehyde, wherein the catalyst is aluminum trichloride, p-toluenesulfonic acid or ferric chloride, and the temperature of hydrolysis and disproportionation is 100 ? -110 ?. The present invention uses inexpensive raw materials which are easy to obtain and 3,3-dimethyl butyraldehyde is prepared through a two-step controllable reaction, thereby the shortcomings of the prior art are overcome.
