Die Erfindung betrifft eine Ausgleichseinrichtung ( 9 ) mit einem variablen Ausgleichsvolumen (22) zum Einsatz in einem Bremssystem (1) zum Durchführen eines Rekuperationsbetriebs, umfassend: - einen elektrohydraulischen Aktuator (10) zum Bereitstellen eines variablen Ausgleichsvolumens (22); und - ein Schutzventil (15), das ausgebildet ist, um das Ausgleichsvolumen (22) von einem eingangsseitigen Eintrittsvolumen (31) gegen eine externe Druckänderung zu trennen, wenn ein absoluter Druck in dem Eintrittsvolumen (31) einen vorgegebenen Druckschwellenwert übersteigt.
