This switching apparatus is provided with, on the inside of a tank enclosing an insulating gas, a stationary contact and a movable contact separable from the stationary contact so as to move back and forth in relation to this stationary contact. The switching apparatus is also provided with an arc extinguishing member provided with through-holes on an enclosing part formed such that the enclosing part will be in sliding contact with the outer peripheral surface of the movable contact part way through the range of motion from the closed state to the open state and enclose the arc space in a sealed state. The through-holes connect the arc space with the outside of the arc space. L'invention concerne un appareil de commutation comprenant, à l'intérieur d'un réservoir contenant un gaz isolant, un contact stationnaire et un contact mobile séparable du contact stationnaire de manière à se déplacer en avant et en arrière par rapport à ce contact stationnaire. L'appareil commutation comprend également un élément d'extinction d'arc comportant des trous traversants sur une partie entourante formée de sorte que cette dernière soit en contact coulissant avec la surface périphérique externe de la partie contact mobile sur toute la plage de déplacement de l'état fermé à l'état ouvert, et entoure l'espace de l'arc à l'état scellé. Les trous traversants relient l'espace de l'arc avec l'extérieur de l'espace de l'arc.
