A paper discriminating device is configured such that a directional dictionary image for each edge is generated based on an edge domain detected from each learning image and an edge direction in the edge domain using the learning image which is an image taken from an authentic paper; a remaining edge domain which lies only in an input image is extracted by comparing the input image which is an image taken from the paper to be discriminated with the directional dictionary image; the density of the remaining edge domain in a given area domain is detected; and the usable discrimination and kind discrimination are implemented. L'invention concerne un dispositif de discrimination de papier. Ce dispositif est configuré de telle sorte qu'une image directionnelle de dictionnaire pour chaque bord soit générée en fonction d'un domaine de bord détecté à partir de chaque image d'apprentissage et en fonction d'un sens de bord propre au domaine de bord à l'aide de l'image d'apprentissage, celle-ci étant une image prise à partir de papier authentique. L'étape suivante consiste à extraire le domaine de bord restant, qui se trouve uniquement dans une image de saisie, et à comparer l'image de saisie qui est une image prise à partir du papier soumis à la discrimination avec l'image directionnelle de dictionnaire. L'invention permet aussi de détecter la densité du domaine de bord restant au sein d'un domaine spatial spécifique. Le procédé sert à mettre en oeuvre la discrimination utilisable et le type de discrimination approprié.
