A method of producing a diffractive optical element comprises forming on a textured surface of a first substrate (2) a predetermined pattern of an ink (3) including an activator for a metallisation reaction and one or more binders; causing or allowing the binder to solidify; applying a first adhesive layer (4) on top on the solidified binder and activator; securing a second substrate (5) to the adhesive layer; removing the second substrate with adhered solidified binder and activator from the first substrate; and forming a metal coating (10) onto the activator- containing regions adhered to the second substrate. L'invention porte sur un procédé de fabrication d'un élément optique diffractif qui comporte la formation, sur une surface texturée d'un premier substrat (2), un motif prédéterminé d'une encre (3) comprenant un activateur pour une réaction de métallisation et un ou plusieurs liants ; le fait d'amener ou de permettre au liant de se solidifier ; l'application d'une première couche adhésive (4) sur le liant solidifié et l'activateur ; la fixation d'un second substrat (5) sur la couche adhésive ; l'enlèvement du second substrat, avec le liant solidifié et l'activateur qui y ont adhéré, du second substrat, et la formation d'un revêtement métallique (10) sur les régions contenant l'activateur adhérant au second substrat.
