The invention relates to a method for treating alkaline and saline batteries including mechanically grinding said batteries to obtain a battery homogenate, at least one separation making it possible to isolate the black mass, acid leaching the black mass making it possible to obtain a mixed solution of manganese and zinc salts, a solid/liquid separation making it possible to recover said mixed solution of manganese and zinc salts, a precipitation of zinc in the form of zinc sulphide, and a selective recovery of manganese and zinc compounds. Procédé de traitement de piles alcalines et salines comprenant un broyage mécanique desdites piles pour obtenir un broyat de piles, au moins une séparation permettant d'isoler la masse noire, une lixiviation acide de la masse noire permettant d'obtenir une solution mixte de sels de manganèse et de zinc, une séparation solide/liquide permettant de récupérer ladite solution mixte de sel de manganèse et de zinc, une précipitation du zinc sous forme de sulfure de zinc et une récupération sélective des composés de manganèse et de zinc.
