The present invention provides a method for preventing and/or treating a patient with acute kidney injury caused by a variety of conditions. The method comprises administering to the patient soluble thrombomodulin variants that do not bind thrombin. In conjunction with standard of care, soluble thrombomodulin variants that do not bind thrombin will prevent or reduce acute kidney injury and subsequent morbidity and mortality. La présente invention concerne une méthode de prévention et/ou de traitement d'un patient souffrant d'une lésion rénale aiguë causée par diverses affections. La méthode consiste à administrer au patient des variants de thrombomoduline soluble qui ne se lient pas à la thrombine. En association avec les traitements habituellement recommandés, les variants de thrombomoduline soluble qui ne se lient pas à la thrombine préviendront ou réduiront une lésion rénale aiguë et ultérieurement la morbidité et la mortalité.
