Une composition de polissage contient une émulsion présentant une phase liquide aqueuse et une phase liquide huileuse ; un carboxylate de zirconium solubilisé ; et de fines particules abrasives d'une dureté Mohs d'au moins 4. Les fines particules abrasives ont une répartition granulométrique ayant au moins un mode présentant une granulométrie d'au moins 5 micromètres. La présente invention concerne également un procédé de finition d'une surface d'un matériau utilisant la composition de polissage.
