The present invention relates to a processing device and a method of providing privacy for a display device comprising a display panel arranged to display a first image signal (405), the display panel having an off-axis tonal reproduction curve that is different from the on-axis tonal reproduction curve of the display panel, and the display panel comprising a group of adjacent subpixels, wherein subpixels of the group of adjacent subpixels contribute at least a common primary color component, and wherein the group of adjacent subpixels associated with at least one pixel; the method comprising modulating control signals of individual subpixels of the group of adjacent subpixels, using a second image signal (425), the control signals arranged to generate tonal values for at least two of the individual subpixels of the group of adjacent subpixels that are at least in part decorrelated from the first image signal when viewed off-axis, and to generate tonal values for the group of adjacent subpixels that on average correspond to the first image signal when viewed on-axis. La présente invention concerne un dispositif de traitement et un procédé permettant d'assurer la confidentialité sur un dispositif d'affichage comprenant un panneau d'affichage conçu pour afficher un premier signal d'image (405), le panneau d'affichage ayant une courbe de reproduction tonale excentrée qui est différente de la courbe de reproduction tonale centrée du panneau d'affichage, le panneau d'affichage comprenant un groupe de sous-pixels adjacents, les sous-pixels du groupe de sous-pixels adjacents contribuant à au moins une composante de couleur primaire commune, le groupe de sous-pixels adjacents étant associé à au moins un pixel ; le procédé comprenant les étapes consistant à moduler des signaux de commande de sous-pixels individuels du groupe de sous-pixels adjacents, utiliser un second signal d'image (425), les signaux de commande étant conçus pour générer des valeurs tonales pour au moins deux des sous-pixels individuels du groupe des sous-pixels adjacents qui sont au moins en partie décorrélés du premier signal d'image lorsqu'ils sont observés de manière excentrée, et pour générer des valeurs tonales pour le groupe des sous-pixels adjacents qui, en moyenne, correspondent au premier signal d'image lorsqu'ils sont observés de manière centrée.
