A shift device having good visibility and operability. The shift device (1) comprises a shift lever (5) for controlling shift conditions of a transmission. When viewed from a driver in the driver's seat, the shift lever (5) is provided on an instrument panel (11) so as to project toward the driver and to be located in a region (R1) which is outside a steering wheel (20) and above the center axis (O) of the steering wheel (20). An airbag device is provided at the center of the steering wheel (20). The shift lever (5) is, when viewed from the driver, provided within the range of expansion of the airbag of the airbag device. La présente invention concerne un dispositif de passage de rapports présentant une bonne efficacité opérationnelle et une bonne visibilité. Un dispositif de coussin gonflable de sécurité est prévu au centre du volant de direction (20). Le levier de passage de rapports (5) est, lorsque vu par le conducteur, prévu à l'intérieur de la zone d'expansion du coussin gonflable de sécurité du dispositif de coussin gonflable de sécurité.
