A Web service synchronization protocol is provided that sets forth the metadata and messaging by which endpoints roam, share and synchronize common information with one another in a multi-master networked computing ecosystem. A general SOAP-based protocol is defined for synchronizing data between two endpoints where one or more of the endpoints supports a Web service. Defining messaging for knowledge-based transfers using XML Web services, the protocol allows devices, services and applications to synchronize through firewalls, allows for flexibility by allowing any common set or subset of information across endpoints and allows for extensibility by not prescribing the schema of the actual data being synchronized at the endpoints. La présente invention concerne un protocole de synchronisation de services web qui présente les métadonnées et la messagerie par lesquelles les points terminaux déplacent, partagent et synchronisent des informations communes les unes par rapport aux autres dans un écosystème informatique réticulé multimaître. Un protocole général basé sur SOAP est défini pour synchroniser des données entre deux points terminaux, un ou plusieurs points terminaux prenant en charge un service web. Par la définition de la messagerie pour les transferts basés sur les connaissances à l'aide de services web XML, le protocole permet aux dispositifs, services et applications de se synchroniser par des pare-feu, fournit une certaine souplesse en permettant tout ensemble ou sous-ensemble commun d'informations sur des points terminaux, et permet l'extensibilité car il ne prescrit pas le schéma des données réelles synchronisées aux points terminaux.
