A method and apparatus for determining the relative locations of nodes in a wireless network is disclosed. A list of neighboring nodes of a master node of the wireless network is generated and, from this list, a list of independent nodes is generated. An adjacency table for the independent nodes is then generated by examining the neighbors of dependent nodes. Two independent nodes are determined to be adjacent nodes only if they are the only neighboring nodes of a dependent node. Relative locations of nodes in wireless network may be determined from the adjacency table. L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour déterminer les espacements relatifs de noeds dans un réseau sans fil. Une liste de noeds voisins d'un noed maître du réseau sans fil est générée et, d'après cette liste, une liste de noeds indépendants est générée. Une table des éléments adjacents pour les noeds indépendants est ensuite générée en examinant les voisins des noeds dépendants. Deux noeds indépendants sont déterminés comme étant des noeds adjacents seulement s'ils sont les seuls noeds voisins d'un noed dépendant. La localisation relative de noeds dans un réseau sans fil peut être déterminée au moyen de la table de contiguïté.
