Summary:A method is provided for determining the location of a sensor 12. In addition, a method is provided for operating a sensor 12 that includes calibrating a sensor 12 based on a patient-specific physiological parameter, in which the patient-specific physiological parameter is skin color, age, gender, pooled blood, venous blood pulsation, or abnormal tissue. L'invention concerne un procédé de détermination de l'emplacement d'un capteur (12). Le procédé comprend la détermination d'un paramètre physiologique en fonction de la lumière détectée, et la détermination de l'emplacement du capteur (12) en fonction du paramètre physiologique. De plus, on propose un procédé permettant de faire fonctionner un capteur (12), qui inclut le calibrage du capteur (12) sur la base d'un paramètre physiologique spécifique au patient, le paramètre physiologique spécifique au patient étant la couleur de peau, l'âge, le sexe, le groupe sanguin, le pouls, ou un tissu anormal.
