A method and system for fall-onset detection. The method comprises the steps of monitoring acceleration at the thigh of a person; monitoring acceleration at the waist of the person; monitoring orientation of the thigh of the person; and detecting the fall-onset if the orientation of the thigh exceeds a first threshold value and a correlation between variation in acceleration of the thigh and variation in acceleration of the waist exceeds a second threshold value and a correlation between variation in the orientation of the thigh and a fall-template variation exceeds a third threshold value. L'invention concerne un procédé et un système servant à détecter un début de chute. Le procédé comprend les étapes consistant à surveiller l'accélération au niveau de la cuisse d'une personne; surveiller l'accélération à la taille de la personne; surveiller l'orientation de la cuisse de la personne; et détecter le début de la chute si l'orientation de la cuisse dépasse une première valeur de seuil et une corrélation entre une variation de l'accélération de la cuisse et une variation de l'accélération de la taille dépasse une seconde valeur de seuil et une corrélation entre une variation de l'orientation de la cuisse et une variation du modèle de chute dépasse une troisième valeur de seuil.
