Summary:An optical waveguide element comprises first and second optical waveguides (11, 12) formed such that waveguide lights of different polarization have different waveguide modes. The first optical waveguide (11) includes a directional coupling region (13). The second optical waveguide (12) has an incident side waveguide (12a) provided in parallel with the first optical waveguide (11) while including the directional coupling region (13), and an exit side waveguide (12b) extended from the incident side waveguide (12a) and bent in the direction receding from the first optical waveguide (11). Selon l'invention, un élément de guide d'ondes optique comprend des premier et second guides d'ondes optiques (11, 12) formés de telle sorte que des lumières de guide d'ondes de polarisations différentes aient différents modes de guide d'ondes. Le premier guide d'ondes optique (11) comprend une région de couplage directionnelle (13). Le second guide d'ondes optique (12) a un guide d'ondes latéral incident (12a) disposé en parallèle avec le premier guide d'ondes optique (11), tout en comprenant la région de couplage directionnelle (13), et un guide d'ondes latéral de sortie (12b) étendu à partir du guide d'ondes latéral incident (12a) et courbé dans la direction s'éloignant du premier guide d'ondes optique (11).
