In one embodiment, a color display comprises a fixed color display element (104) configured to provide light of a first color, and a variable color display element (106) configured to provide light of a variable second color, wherein the second color is variably controlled such that the variable color and fixed color display elements collectively and operatively display light of a perceivable color. L'invention concerne un écran couleur (100) renfermant une pluralité de pixels (102), dans lequel chaque pixel est composé de deux sous-pixels ou moins (104, 106). Dans un mode de réalisation, un écran couleur est doté d'un élément d'affichage de couleur fixe (104) configuré pour produire la lumière d'une première couleur et un élément d'affichage de couleur variable (106) configuré pour produire la lumière d'une seconde couleur variable ; la seconde couleur est contrôlée de façon variable, de sorte que les éléments d'affichage de couleur variable et de couleur fixe affichent collectivement et opérationnellement la lumière d'une couleur visible.
