A system of obtaining hydrogen from a coal seam by providing a production well that extends into the coal seam; positioning a conduit in the production well leaving an annulus between the conduit and the coal gasification production well, the conduit having a wall; closing the annulus at the lower end to seal it from the coal gasification cavity and the syngas; providing at least a portion of the wall with a bifunctional membrane that serves the dual purpose of providing a catalyzing reaction and selectively allowing hydrogen to pass through the wall and into the annulus; and producing the hydrogen through the annulus. La présente invention concerne un système d'obtention d'hydrogène à partir d'une veine de charbon par la fourniture d'un puits de production qui s'étend dans ladite veine ; le positionnement d'une conduite dans ledit puits laissant un espace annulaire entre la conduite et ledit puits, la conduite présentant une paroi ; la fermeture de l'espace annulaire au niveau de l'extrémité inférieure pour le séparer de la cavité de gazéification et le rendre étanche au gaz de synthèse ; l'installation, sur au moins une partie de la paroi, d'une membrane bifonctionnelle qui a le double objectif de permettre une réaction de catalyse et permettre que l'hydrogène passe de manière sélective à travers la paroi et dans l'espace annulaire ; et la production d'hydrogène à travers l'espace annulaire.
