A computer-based method and system of evolving a virtual molecule with a set of desired properties is described that begins with extracting fragments from existing molecules and labelling those fragments. Connectivity rules existing between the fragments in the existing molecules are determined followed by combining these fragments according to the connectivity rules. The molecules generated by the combination are evaluated and some are selected for modification. The evaluation and modification steps are repeated for the selected molecules until either 1 ) a target evaluation value is achieved or 2) the evaluation step has been performed a predefined number of times. L'invention concerne un procédé et un système informatisés de développement d'une molécule virtuelle présentant un ensemble de propriétés souhaitées. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste à extraire des fragments à partir de molécules existantes et à étiqueter ces fragments. Des règles de connectivité existant entre les fragments dans les molécules existantes sont déterminées, puis ces fragments sont combinés selon les règles de connectivité. Les molécules produites par la combinaison sont évaluées et certaines molécules sont sélectionnées pour modification. Les étapes d'évaluation et de modification sont répétées pour les molécules sélectionnées jusqu'à ce que soit 1) une valeur d'évaluation cible est atteinte, soit 2) l'étape d'évaluation a été réalisée un nombre de fois prédéfini.
