A surgical instrument for revising/removing an artificial disc or removing/replacing a core of an artificial disc includes a pair of tips (12, 14), each tip having a pair of tines (16, 18, 20, 22) and a stop (24, 26, 28, 30) defining a proximal end of each tine. The stop of at least one tip is abutted against an interior surface of an implanted endplate of an artificial disc, whereby tines of the tip can support the artificial disc. The tip is separated from another, opposing tip, whereby opposing implanted endplates, each of which is supported by pairs of tines of a tip, are separated, thereby distracting vertebrae between which the endplates are implanted. Upon distracting the disc space, the core can be revised or removed from between the endplates of the artificial disc. Following core removal, the endplates of the artificial disc are revised (repositioned), removed or replaced. Cet instrument chirurgical destiné à réviser/enlever un disque artificiel ou à enlever/remplacer un noyau d'un disque artificiel comporte une paire de pointes (12, 14), chaque pointe ayant une paire de dents (16, 18, 20, 22) et une butée (24, 26, 28, 30) définissant une extrémité proximale de chaque dent. La butée d'au moins une pointe bute contre une surface intérieure d'une plaque de bout implantée d'un disque artificiel, les dents de la pointe permettant de supporter le disque artificiel. La pointe est séparée d'une autre pointe opposée, de sorte que des plaques de bout opposées implantées, qui sont chacune supportées par des paires de dents d'une pointe, soient séparées, en étirant ainsi les vertèbres entre lesquelles sont implantées les plaques de bout. Une fois l'espace des disques étiré, le noyau peut être révisé ou enlevé d'entre les plaques de bout du disque artificiel. Suite à l'enlèvement du noyau, les plaques de bout du disque artificiel sont révisées (repositionnées), enlevées ou remplacées.
